Privacy Policy — Liz's IPA Translator

Liz's IPA Translator is a Chrome extension that converts typed or pasted English text into IPA phonemic transcription (Southern British English / modern RP). This policy explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with your data.

What the extension does NOT do

• It does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information.
• It does not track browsing activity, page content, or visited sites.
• It does not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking of any kind.
• Text you type or paste into the extension is never sent anywhere — all transcription happens locally, inside your own browser.

What the extension does

• Local dictionary lookup: the extension bundles a pronunciation dictionary and looks up words you type entirely on your device.
• Corrections feed: the extension fetches a small JSON file of pronunciation corrections from https://ipa-corrections-site.netlify.app/corrections.json, a site the developer controls, so fixes can be published without updating the extension itself. This is a one-way read: the extension only downloads this file, it never sends any data to it.
• Local caching: the extension uses Chrome's storage permission to cache the corrections feed on your own device, so the extension keeps working if you're offline. This cached data stays on your device and is never transmitted elsewhere.

• host permission for ipa-corrections-site.netlify.app — to fetch the corrections feed described above.
